MAYA Lucía

Painter and sculptor. Born in the USA in 1953 and at 4 years old returned to Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico so not to loose her Mexican nationality.

In 1971 she studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG).

Was offered a scholarship in 1973 from the Instituto Allende in San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico and one year later traveled to Spain where she studied at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid.

Maya held her first collective exhibition at the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara in 1978 and her first solo one titled " La Casa de las Muñecas" at the Casa del Lago del Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City in 1979.

In 1995 her exhibition "Preludios del Insomnio, Las Fases de Hécate" was held at the Museo del Palacio de las Bellas Artes in Mexico City.

During 2000 she presented a retrospective exhibition titled " Luz Implacable" at the galleries of the Ex Convento del Carmen Museum in Guadalajara, Mexico.

In 2004, Maya showed another retrospective exhibition of her 29 year as an artist at the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Puerto Rico.

Her work has been shown in various states of Mexico as well as the USA, Denmark and Puerto Rico.
